Survival Arts Class

Survival Arts was envisioned and manifested by Jamie Yancovitz and Jana Lynne (JL) Umipig with the intention to create a Sacred Space of gathering for Cis&Queer&Trans Identifying Womxn/ Indigenous and Diasporic Womxn of Color to create community in the learnings for Survival connected to Ancestral and Indigenous based teachings.

We seek to gather QTPOC Diasporic and Indigenous Womxn to be attuned and exchange in survival arts knowledge of the body, mind and spirit in connection to a coming revolution that echoes the revolutions fought by our ancestors for our continued existence.  We will be looking at the context of resistance and survival that is in the spirit of all Womxn and what it means to protect the family/tribe, home and land as a part of our instinctual nature. We seek to connect to the Roots of Resistance and Survival in our lineages and how we can gather knowledge of survival body, mind and spirit for practice and way of life.

We invite womxn to take part in workshops and practice of honoring and reconnection to Land, Healing, and Survival Arts Training rooted in Pekiti Tirsia Kali techniques (a revolutionary Pilipina Fighting Arts that was of the people during times of resistance), Ancestral Connection work, AND Self-empowerment and Sisterhood building. The main goal is to root us in the beginnings of shifting and fortifying minds, bodies and hearts of the womxn who arrive - in preparation of moments of resistance and survival against Neo-Colonial Powers.

Reclaim the sacred wisdom of our ancestors that has allowed us to survive and resist for thousands of years! In this unique healing and training retreat, we will work to decolonize and protect our bodies, while healing through the indigenous warrior arts of Pekiti Tirsia Kali. This sacred space that we are creating is meant for QTPOC Pinays, migrant, and indigenous womxn of color throughout the diaspora to connect to our culture and warrior heritage.

Survival Arts Trainings include Edged & Impact Weapon Control Dynamics, movement and body mechanics. We ask that folks come prepared with water, appropriate foot gear, comfortable attire, and a journal for reflection work.
